Transhumanist Manifesto

I always had the idea of transhumanism in mind. I just never knew how to put a name on it. I was always curious about ways of overcoming death. But I had several layers of “it’s not possible” over that thought. Like an onion, the layers started coming off one by one. First it was the religious layer. It promised me that there is a life after death. But it didn't allow me to actively work on it or to consider immortality. That was considered a sin. The second layer was the societal factor. What will my friends or family think if I mention these ideas to them? This thought was able to keep me from working on this for 25 years. The third one was the science layer. Is it scientifically possible? I'm still struggling with this one.

Why are we working on so many issues that don't matter, when there is an enemy that kills us every day? Why are we playing status games? I mean, since we're going to die anyway, why do they matter? Why not, instead, try to work on things that sounded impossible for thousands of years? This is what I was asking myself. Until I found the transhumanist community.

I didn't know about this word until I turned 25. And when I heard about it, it felt like a revelation.

Wait a second! There actually is a group of people that are working on things that matter. There is a group of people that are working on the most important and interesting technologies of this world. And they all have a common goal: well-being of humanity.

This is the transhumanist community.

I was thinking, what if I can help in spreading the word? Maybe that would help. And that's how I started learning about transhumanism. I started interviewing members of the community. The more people I was talking to, it became obvious that transhumanism is well and alive, probably more than ever before. Because we are closer than ever to achieving the transhumanist goal. The "sci-fi" technologies we were considering impossible to create, are becoming a reality.

I'm very thankful for being able to learn and understand about different ways of dealing with existential issues like death. But transhumanism is not only about overcoming death. It's really a community that advocates for the ethical and safe development of very powerful technologies. Cryonics, brain computer interfaces, bio-tech for age reversal, artificial body parts, and longevity drugs. These are only a few of the transhumanist tech stack.

Philosophy is also very important for transhumanists. How do we achieve ethical AI? How do we achieve a level of understanding that allows us to safely use these powerful technologies? Why do we have to suffer?

Suffering is not something that transhumanists consider necessary. Transhumanists generally find it absurd that people think suffering gives meaning to life. I agree.

Transhumanism allowed me to open my eyes towards the real science behind the most outrageous ideas.

And it seems like there is a lot more to uncover.
